Asha Gill: The sum of great parts

image

In China it is almost universally believed that a union between a Westerner and an Native Chinese will produce beautiful offspring. I have seen awesome proof of that Cantonese wive’s tale with many inter-racial pairings.

Amerasian, Mixed Race, Luk Kreung, and dozens of other PC words describe the children of Eastern and Western parentage who have become the new standard for sensuality in the arts and advertising. Stunners like Hong Kong’s Maggie Q, Thailand’s Tata Young, and my favorite, Malaysia’s Asha Gill, are wildly popular in their home countries as well as abroad. They have parlayed their unique looks and extraordinary talents into movies, hit records, important charity fund raising (Asha does dozens of events every year for a variety of causes like Amnesty International) and have helped grow a proud sense of identity among bi-racial beauties. For more of Asha you can visit her website at AshaGill.comShe is best known for Lonely Planet’s Six Degrees, the international travel series of which she is anchor host. But this beautiful Malaysian of Punjabi and English parentage is also a writer, producer, director and actress. I am hoping South China is on her itinerary!

All Natural Is Good For Your Health

Anna Tan

It isn’t often that an asian girl gets endowed with such … blessings. Anna Tan is a very fine example of one. There is not a whole lot that can be found online about this Filipina-Chinese beauty, as she was fairly new to the scene before dropping out to break hearts by getting married and having a baby, but she sure is a refreshing break from all the silicone nowadays.
Anna Tan

Anna Tan

Anna is still very active in her official Myspace page and has a few spreads in Pinays.com. She also appears in the 2006 Women of the East Calendar alongside Christine Mendoza, Tera Patrick, and Charmane Starr. One can only hope that Anna Tan pursues her career in modelling…a natural asian beauty of her proportions is rare enough as it is and truly a sight to behold.

Gwendoline Yeo

Gwendoline Yeo

Gwendoline Yeo, better known as Xiao Mei in “Desperate Housewives”, was born and raised in Singapore and immigrated to San Francisco, California. She graduated from the SF Conservatory of Music in Piano and picked up the nerdiest instrument of all – the Chinese Zither. She was introduced to La La Land after winning the Miss Chinatown USA pageant in 1998.

Would be great if someone can find some larger scans of this Asian beauty!

Yukawa Chan Piano Duo

Yukawa Chan Piano Duo

Cassie Yukawa and Rosey Chan are two dazzling young piano virtuosi with an eye for the theatrical. Former rivals on the junior competition circuit, the pair first began collaborating in November 2003, shortly after leaving the Royal College of Music where they had both studied with Yonty Solomon. Since then they have burst onto the UK classical music scene with performances at such prestigious venues as London’s South Bank Centre, Wigmore and Steinway Halls. Their repertoire extends from Mozart and Rachmaninov through to John Cage and collaborations with contemporary composers such as Kenneth Hesketh.

Their website could use a re-design, but check out a gallery with some more photo’s.Cassie Yukawa was born in London in 1981 of mixed English and Japanese parentage. She began her musical tuition in Tokyo aged four, subsequently joining the Purcell School of Music with a scholarship in 1995 making her concerto debut playing Saint-Saens‚ Piano Concerto No. 2 aged 14. Cassie graduated from the Royal College of Music BMus Degree in June 2003.

Rosey Chan began her musical studies at the age of six. In 1992 Rosey received a scholarship to study piano and violin at the Junior Royal Academy of Music in London winning several prizes, including the Iris Dyer Piano competition for three consecutive years. Rosey continued her education studying piano with Yonty Solomon at the Royal College of Music graduating from the BMus Degree in 2002.

Ai Dai wears love well

AI DAI

Her name in Chinese means “Wears Love” and the Mainland singing and dancing sensation, with the English handle of “Edell,” looks great in it. If she promised to wear this outfit I’d herd sheep with her on Brokeback Mountain.Pop stars in China are moving past the school girl imitations once inspired by Japan and is adopting the sohistication and elegance that has long lived in Taiwan and Hong Kong. Ai Dai is a perfect example of an emerging change in style. She recently released an album entitled “Love Vigilance” and then promptly announced she was heading for an acting career. When asked what kind of roles she wanted to play, Edell said she hoped to act as a female gangster with a kind heart. At 5’5″ and 100 pounds I think she needs a devoted body guard. “Ai Dai,” when you say it out loud, works pretty well as a movie title don’t you think? More pic’s of her here: AI DAI and here: EDELL
