The ‘rape’ of Ms Shilpa Shetty – By Richard Gere?

image

Apparently to some it almost resembled a Bollywood rape scene on screen. Only the victim was not screaming or resisting. She was giggling with her eyes closed and seemed to be quite appreciative of what was going on.To an outraged public it was not an affectionate hug, but it was a passionate, sexual embrace.

Hearing them describe the controversial cuddle sounds something like this: “Gere held her with his arms and legs in a breath-taking grip, bent her down, pressed his torso and hips against her soft body. It looked as if he was overcome with passion and could not control himself. He was evidently unaware of the large audience that had come to participate in an AIDS awareness programme. He was totally oblivious to the world and got into a tight, blissful embrace…”

Hong Kong: Magazine cleared of wet t-shirt child porn charges

image

Easy Finder magazine was acquitted yesterday of publishing child pornography when it ran pictures of a young pop singer in a wet T-shirt. Kwun Tong Magistrate Gary Lam Kar-yan conceded that one of the four pictures of Renee Lee Wan, published last June when she was 14, did suggest the outline and shape of her left breast and nipple. Full story here.In my opinion, this seems a little overboard to me. I saw the original pictures and only with a vivid imagination could the pictures be viewed as ‘pornography’. It does make you wonder about child pornography laws though. Not to mention the fact that her mother was willing to allow her 14 year-old daughter to pose in the suggestive “wet t-shirt” pics – and happily collect money for them – until the public outcry; then she too was misled and wronged.

Online China goes to Japan for porn

Much ado has been made over China’s constant efforts to protect its citizens from the nefarious influence of free flowing Internet information. Falun Gong, Wikipedia, Reporters Without Borders, BBC News, any reference to June 4, 1989, Taiwan independence or a free Tibet are no-nos, of course. Selected blog sites, such as the popular Blogspot, also are often blocked but then unblocked and blocked again in an unpredictable cycle that defies logic.

But now thanks to the Baidu search engine, Chinese users are getting more than they bargained for. Full story here.

Annabel Chong finds new life on stage

Annabel Chong

A play about the life of Annabel Chong, star of Zane’s ‘The World’s Biggest Gang Bang’, where she had sex with 70 men and performed 251 sex acts in 10 hours, has opened today in Singapore. Toy Factory produced ‘251’, and assistant marketing manager Bryan Teo said 10 of the show’s 14 performances in the 220-seat theater are sold out.’251′ is a character study on Chong (real name Grace Quek), who achieved notoriety as a result of her gang bang film in 1995. Her video is banned in Singapore because of the country’s strict anti-pornography laws, only increasing the public’s interest in her, according to Teo. The play broaches her sexual assault before porn and her struggle with religion. Chong has said part of the reason she performed in adult movies was as a reaction to Singapore’s rigid social and political controls. ‘251’ director Loretta Chen said this theme would be explored as well.

‘251’ is not the first mainstream endeavor to portray Chong. A documentary about her life, ‘Sex: The Annabel Chong Story’ was nominated for a Grand Jury Prize at 1999’s Sundance Film Festival.

Chong retired from porn in 2003 and is now said to be a U.S.-based web designer.

Indonesia Playboy editor acquitted!

A court cleared the editor of Playboy Indonesia on Thursday of distributing indecent pictures to the public and making money from them after a high-profile trial that exposed deep divisions in the Muslim-majority nation.

Editor-in-chief Erwin Arnada had argued the magazine was good for developing a pluralistic society, while the prosecution and Islamic hardliners who have regularly attended his high-profile trial said he had “harmed the nation’s morals.”

Efran Basuni, the presiding judge at the South Jakarta court, said the prosecution’s arguments “could not be accepted” and “were not diligent” because they failed to take account of Indonesian media laws created after the 1998 downfall of President Suharto’s regime that ushered in press freedom.
