Born in Hong Kong to a Chinese father and a Chinese-English-Spanish-Portuguese mother, actress/model Debbie Wong is a self-confessed “gypsy” who jets around from one overseas assignment to another, driven by her insatiable wanderlust. Over the past four years, this career has taken her to Thailand, Taiwan, and Malaysia, and Singapore. She did a variety of projects ranging from dramas, sitcoms and hosting in KL and even a few modelling jobs in Thailand, Taiwan, and Singapore.Debbie’s rise to popularity started when she was the 1st runner-up at the 1996 Miss Chinese Toronto Pageant in Toronto, Canada, where she was raised. A lot of attention was placed on Debbie (contestant #12) during the pageant finals, as she supposedly twisted her ankle. As it turned out, she had stepped on something sharp. She was one of the favourites slated to win the contest, but it is said that her height (or rather, lack thereof) jeopardised her chances of winning. In addition to being the 1st runner-up, Debbie also garnered the titles of both “Miss Popularity” as well as “Miss Photogenic”.

Ms. Wong didn’t always want to be a model, but opportunity came knocking and she answered. After returning to Hong Kong from college in Toronto, she took part in the Miss Hong Kong Pageant in the year 2000, bearing the contestant number #9. Interestingly, at that time, she was working as a photographer’s assistant, and was spending time on the wrong side of the camera. Although she did not win any of the top three places, she did walk away with the “Best Hair Award” for her sensuous tresses. Also, after her participation in the pageant, she received many requests to appear in commercials and photo shoots.

The ex-beauty queen has since appeared in music videos opposite Cantopop Kings Aaron Kwok and Andy Lau. Currently, she is modelling in various parts of Asia and has graced many an advertisement in both print and television media.

Colleen Francisca, 1.74m, age 24, was crowned Miss Singapore World 2006 on July 3. She will represent Singapore in the Miss World pageant in Warsaw, Poland, on 30 Sept. 2006. She also won the Miss Charming, Miss Body Beautiful, Best In Swimwear and Miss Chic Attitude titles.
