Timothy Greenfield-Sanders’ book
XXX features paired portraits (one clothed and one nude) of the top stars in pornographic film. A cross section of straight and gay men and women is represented, from porn legends to rising stars. The book also includes 15 short essays on the intersection of pornography and culture by a wide range of distinguished writers. Greenfield-Sanders also made a documentary “Thinking XXX”, a film about the making of the XXX book. It first aired in October 2004 on HBO.
I found out about the book in the new SNOECKS 2006. (An annual Dutch/Flamish book about photography, film, literature, art, architecture and design). I never was a big fan of Tera Patrick, but thought it might be interesting to address the book for the fans.Tera Patrick is half Thai, quarter British and quarter Dutch. She learned when she was a teenager that sex is power, and “I knew from the start that I had that power.” Not many years later, within one month, she featured the covers of both Playboy and Penthouse. She did dozens of porn movies before she started her own production company in 2004: Teravision. “I want to make movies that at the same time are beautiful, naughty and fun. Sex is fun, that is the message.”
