Mimi Miyagi, the Asian-American porn actress and star of such films as “Seoul Train” and “China Vagina”, officially declared her candidacy to run for governor of Nevada earlier this month as a Republican.Miyagi made her last porn movie, Happy Endings, in 2003, and has since moved on to low-budget mainstream productions, while continuing to work as a stripper and peddle Internet porn.

Almost 1,500 watched 28 contestants representing countries from Asia and Asia Minor compete. In the end, the crown went to Jennifer Pham, 20, of Orange County, who represented Vietnam in the pageant.

Two police officers are dead, one is missing and another is injured after a Navy boat carrying beauty queens capsized in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of Guatemala and Mexico. The boat was carrying around 30 people, most of them contestants in the Miss Pacific beauty pageant. It capsized after being battered by a wave near Ocos, some 270 kilometres south-west of Guatemala City. Army and police personnel were also on board to ensure the contestants’ safety. “The police (successfully) helped rescue the passengers but they appeared to succumb to fatigue, because in the end, they did not have the strength to save themselves,” police spokesman Carlos Calju said. He also says another police officer is missing. A fourth police officer is being treated for a head injury.

A group of Muslims protesting Playboy’s decision to launch an Indonesian edition of the magazine clashed with police Wednesday and stoned the company’s editorial offices, witnesses said. No one was injured in the protest involving around 150 members of the Islamic Defenders’ Front, a small group with a history of attacking bars and nightclubs, as well as Western embassies. The protesters smashed several windows and the door and gate at the magazine’s offices in south Jakarta, witnesses said. Several were seen scuffling with police officers guarding the building. Playboy’s first local edition in a Muslim country went on sale Friday.
