Japanese AV and Gravure Idols do Horror

Big Tits Zombie

Halloween is horror movie time and if you’ve watched a low-budget Japanese horror/gore flick in the last few years and wanted more info on the sexy actress in the lead role, finding it shouldn’t be difficult. Chances are, a simple Google search is all it will take to see a lot more of her because most of the ladies seen in such gems were chosen from the very large talent pool of AV and gravure idols Japan has to offer. Above, we see how nicely JAV alumnae Sora Aoi, Risa Kasumi, and Mari Sakurai fill out their roles in Big Tits Zombie (in 3D!).Below are just a select few more JAV and gravure idols who’ve landed starring roles in horror/gore movies. If you’re a fan of this genre, all of these films are highly recommended. Well….all except for maybe one of them.

Eihi Shiina - Tokyo Gore Police
Even though she’s a fashion (not gravure) model, Eihi Shiina, who gave a winning performance as Asami in Audition, deserves inclusion here. She’s pictured above as Ruka in Tokyo Gore Police.

Minase Yashiro - Maching Girl

Tsugumi Nagasawa - Grotesque
Tsugumi Nagasawa (formerly known as Asami Tachibana and who’s also starred in Tokyo Gore Police and Zombie Hunter Rika) as Aki in Grotesque. Unlike the other more campy films mentioned in this entry, this one is definitely not for the faint-hearted.

Nikkatsu Queens

Flower and Snake (1974)

Some of the comments in this entry touched on certain types of Japanese softcore porn movies know as “pink films” (“pinku eiga” in Japanese), that were produced from the mid-1960s to the late-1980s. The ones made by Nikkatsu studios from 1971-1988 were known as the second wave of the pink film era. Also dubbed “roman porn” (which is short for “romantic pornography” and has absolutely nothing to do with anything coming from Italy’s capital city), a couple of of the more notable early Nikkatsu productions were Apartment Wife: Afternoon Affair, which starred Kazuko Shirakawa and Secret Chronicle: She Beast Market, with Junko Miyashita.

In 1974, Nikkatsu movies such as Flower and Snake (poster above), began centering on bondage and S&M themes and often starred Noami Tani, a young actresses who savored her roles and looked great in rope. Naomi, together with Kazuko and Junko, became known as the first three “Nikkatsu Queens,” who made their marks during the heyday of the Nikkatsu roman porn era.

Kazuko Shirakawa
Kazuko Shirakawa, who starred in the first of the “Apartment Wife” series in 1971, is considered to be the original Nikkatsu Queen. After her last roman porn film in 1976, she went on to a fairly successful career in mainstream movies.

Junko Miyashita
Junko Miyashita (here in a still from the 1975 gem, A Woman Called Sada Abe) also went on to do mainstream films and is still currently acting.

Naomi Tani
Credited with bringing Nikkatsu into the S&M genre, Naomi Tani began her brief tenure with the company in 1974 with Flower and Snake and made her final Nikkatsu feature in 1979 with Rope and Skin (above). After her retirement, she went through a few personal difficulties but did release an interesting vocal album entitled Modae No Heya in which she spoke (not sung) over a background of traditional Japanese instruments. Eventually, she became a restaurant owner and later, opened a video store that specializes in the type of classic bondage movies she used to star in.

Apartment Wife: Afternoon Affair (1971)
Apartment Wife: Afternoon Affair, which starred Kazuko Shirakawa, was the first of the Apartment Wife series. After starring in the first eight entries, Kazuko was succeeded in 1975 by Rumi Tama.

Secret Chronicle: She Beast Market (1974)
1974’s Secret Chronicle: She Beast Market which features Junko Miyashita, contains some unforgettable scenes and is a must-have for any serious collector of Nikkatsu roman porn.

Zero Woman

Miki Sugimoto

The main character of the “Zero Woman” series is Special Undercover Agent Rei (her family name’s never been revealed), who works for “Section Zero” of the Tokyo Police Department. Her risky assignments require her to infiltrate the criminal underworld where, even though she often finds herself in “compromising” positions, she always manages to come out on top.

The role of Rei has been played by a total of 10 different actresses over the years, the first of whom being 70s pink film queen Miki Sugimoto (above). See the others after the jump.(For those that want more information on these movies and the actresses who starred in them, you can find a lot of it here. If anyone still wants additional details and a Google search doesn’t provide them, send me an e-mail and I will be happy to do what I can.)

After 21-year hiatus, Rei reappeared in the form of actress/singer/model Natsuki Ozawa in the simply-titled Zero Woman.

Zero Woman - Final Mission (1995)
Naoko Iijima starred as Rei in the second 1995 release, Final Mission.

Zero Woman - Assassin Lovers (1996)
Described by one reviewer as “a cross between Susan Sarandon and Rosamund Kwan,” Kumiko Takeda took on the role in 1996’s Assassin Lovers.

Zero Woman - The Accused (1997)
The 1997 film, The Accused featured Mai Tachihara, who was the lowest-profile actress to play the part.

Zero Woman - The Hunted (1997)
Mikiyo Ono, who was a member of the J-Pop singing group “Coco,” starred in the second 1997 Zero Woman film, The Hunted.

Zero Woman - Dangerous Game (1998)
Personal favorite Chieko Shiratori (not to be confused with pro wrestler Chikako Shiratori) nicely filled the role of Rei in 1998’s Dangerous Game.

Zero Woman Returns (1999)
1999’s Zero Woman Returns featured Saori Ono, another actress who hasn’t seemed to have appeared in much else.

Zero Woman (2005)
Maiko Tohno (also spelled Maiko Tono) starred in 2005’s Zero Woman. The second one in the franchise with no subtitle.

Zero Woman R (2007)
The 2007 and most recent exploit of Rei, Zero Woman R featured Atsuko Miura.

Viann Zhang Xin Yu

image

First there were the Paris Hilton sex tapes. Then there was the Edison Chen scandal. And now we have what might be the worst scandal of all – model and actress Viann Zhang Xin Yu has photos of her … with her boyfriend … on the bed together … wearing clothes.

Scandal of the decade perhaps? The century? Dare I say … the millennium? And yes, that’s a real story. They called it “Bedgate” or something stupid like that. The photos are so lame I’m not even going to bother linking to them.

In brighter news, her nickname is apparently “Swallow.” Hm….

Risa Kudo as Zombie Hunter Rika

Zombie Hunter Rika

In keeping with the spirit of Halloween, here’s popular gravure idol Risa Kudo (as well as the supporting cast) of the 2008 gore-fest Zombie Hunter Rika, a movie that proves when it comes to comedy/horrors with awful scripts, high-school special effects, and bad acting from beautiful, buxom young ladies, the Japanese definitely do not take a back seat to their counterparts in Hong Kong.
Risa Kudo as Rika
Risa Kudo stars as Rika, whose surgeon grandfather grafts the right arm of a fearless zombie hunter to her, thus transforming her into one herself. Throughout the whole movie, she doesn’t strip past her school uniform, so she may have been chosen for the role due to her acting abilities, which, comparatively, aren’t that bad. See more of her here.

Tsugumi Nagasawa
JAV actress Tsugumi Nagasawa (formerly known as Asami Tachibana) plays Rika’s grandfather’s wife, Sayaka Shiratori, who schemes with her boyfriend to kill the old man so that she can inherit all he owns. She also provides the film with some titillating scenes. (Pun intended.) Tsugumi’s other splatter movie credits include Tokyo Gore Police (2008) and Grotesque (2009). A nice topless shot of her on the set of the former; here.

Akina Serizawa, Mina Arai and Lemon Hanazawa
One notable scene in the move is where the three maids at Rika’s grandfather’s mansion (played by Akina Serizawa, Mina Arai, and Lemon Hanazawa) are interrupted by one of the flesh-eating ghouls while comparing boobs with each other. Lemon’s also appeared in such gems as Lunch Box (2004) and Molester’s Train: Sensitive Fingers (2007).

Clip of granddad’s wife, Sayaka (Tsugumi), making out with her boyfriend as a voyeuristic zombie watches, followed by the above-mentioned scene with the three maids.
