Rosalind Chao

Rosalind Chao

After featuring her Joy Luck Club co-star Ming-Na Wen – as well as fellow Star Trek babe Linda Park – I thought it only fair that we should also do a post on Chinese actress Rosalind Chao. Okay, so maybe she isn’t as sexy as Linda, but for my money she’s prettier than Ming-Na, and looks amazing considering she’s pushing 50! Despite her long and distinguished acting career, the above pic was the only decent sized one I could find, and there don’t seem to be any fan sites devoted to her either.Perhaps best known for her recurring guest role as Keiko O’Brien in Star Trek: The Next Generation and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, her acting career actually stretches all the way back to 1970, when she appeared in an episode of I Love Lucy. Since then, she has made nearly a hundred(!) notable TV appearances, and has starred in 44 films. Come on, surely it must be worthwhile for somebody to do a fan site on her! Here’s a Wikipedia entry on her anyway.

I have never seen a film with her in it, but that doesn’t matter does it? She is Asian and beautiful. (I have Nixon on dvd, so finally a reason to put in the player one of these days ;-))

Michelle was born in 1974 in Fallon, Nevada, USA. Her mother is of Chinese descent and her father is caucasian*. She won the “Audience Choice” award for her film Saving Face (2004) at Taiwan’s 42nd Golden Horse film awards on 13 November 2005 (Golden Horse film awards are the Chinese-speaking equivalent to the Oscars). Funny trivia: while attending Virginia tech, she went to a workshop featuring director Oliver Stone and actually fell asleep during the workshop but eventually landed a small role in his film Nixon.

Michelle Krusiec interview

* UPDATE: ASG just posted an interview with Michelle Krusiec. The article claims Krusiec was born in Taiwan to Chinese parents, but that she moved to the United States at the age of five with her aunt who married an American sailor, adopting his name. So she is a full blood Asian after all. (Thanks Badboy!)

Ming-Na Wen

Ming-Na

This pretty lady is Chinese-American actress Ming-Na. She also goes by the name Ming-Na Wen. She was born in China in 1963, but came to the USA at age 4. Do the math and you will see yet another example of how many Asian ladies seem to hardly age at all!

Ming-Na caught the acting bug at an early age and eventually earned a BA degree in theatre (with high honors) from Carnegie-Mellon University. As you can see in her IMDB Profile, she has numerous movie, television and theatre credits to her name.

The first role to bring Ming-Na notoriety was her part in the film The Joy Luck Club. She also had a long running role as Dr. Chen on the popular television show ER. More recently, she is the voice of Mulan in the film Mulan II.

Kristin Kreuk

Kristin Kreuk

When I first saw this gorgeous girl in Smallville, I thought “wow, she’s one of the prettiest non-Asian girls I’ve ever seen”. Little did I know she actually was Asian – well half Asian anyway, and half Dutch. In a sense this is even better for me, as I am half Dutch myself (not to mention the fact that both Marco and Robin are Dutch too)! I am of course talking about Canadian actress Kristin Kreuk.Born in Vancouver to a Dutch father and an Indonesian Chinese mother, she continues to work from there today. She got her big break when a casting director sent a fax to her high school asking for an exotic looking girl to star in a new TV series. Kristin certainly fit the description and landed a lead role in the hit Canadian teen show Edgemont – from her first ever professional audition!

It was her lead role in Smallville, however, that really brought her to the attention of the rest of the world (including me!). As both series are shot in Vancouver, she has been able to work on both shows simultaneously. More recently, she has appeared in the Sci Fi channel mini series Legend of Earthsea, the comedy film Eurotrip and also as Snow White – it’s hard to imagine any one better suited to this role!

She’s also had some other notable achievements outside acting. In 2002 she became the newest spokesmodel for Nuetrogena and was #10 in Canadian FHM’s “Hottest Girls” list (she was #71 in the US edition that year). In 2003 she was #24 in FHM’s “100 Sexiest Women” list. In 2005 she was #67 in Maxim’s “Hot 100” list, #18 in askmen.com‘s “Most Desirable Women” list and #1 in Femme Fatale’s “50 Sexiest Women of the Year” list. In other words, she’s hot!

Desiree Siahaan

I found Singaporean (or (half) Indonesian?) Desiree on a scan from FHM Singapore (photo in More…). After some research I learned this:

Desiree Ann Siahaan burst upon the scene at the age of 17 when she won first runner-up in the New Paper New Face Contest. She quickly became in demand as a model, representing a diverse range of products such as Samsung, Singapore Tourism Board and Nivea in countries such as Singapore, Korea, Japan and Indonesia. This early success led to acting opportunities on Singapore TV. However, it wasn’t long before she gained regional exposure, winning a starring role in Rouge, MTV Asia’s first action and drama television series.

I could not find a whole lot about her, but here is what I did find and liked:Desiree on the web:
