Eurasian Mei Melançon plays Psylocke in X-Men: The Last Stand. The 26-year-old model-turned-actress portrays the bad girl who, as the story goes, started as a member of the X-Men before switching bodies with a female assassin to become an evil mutant hybrid. The 5’8” (1.70m) Melançon is something of a hybrid herself, the product of a Japanese/Chinese father and a French/Native American mother.When she was 16, her brother’s friend showed her a comic book featuring none other than the exotic villainess Psylocke. The teenage Melançon mused, “Maybe when I grow up I’ll look like this. I could play this girl!”

“When I put the outfit on, it empowered me. I felt a lot fiercer,” says Melançon. The Philippines-born actress, who previously had a bit part in Rush Hour 2, shouldn’t need much help doing that. In her free time she practices Wushu kung fu, hits the waves on her surfboard, and plays guitar in an all-girl garage band with a friend and a younger sister (one of her 10 siblings). She describes the unnamed band’s sound as a mix of punk and soul influences, crediting her hippie mother for teaching her to play guitar at age 5. “I was in a kids’ band called The Blossoms when I was 9. We used to perform at charities and clubs,” says Melançon.

I was surprised this wasn’t reported here right away with all the Bai Ling fans around here. So, doing my part to keep everybody “abreast” of the situation…seems Bai Ling had a nipple slip at Cannes while she was there promoting her new film “Shanghai Baby”. The Egotastic blog has all the pictures and some commentary.

Gwendoline Yeo, better known as Xiao Mei in “Desperate Housewives”, was born and raised in Singapore and immigrated to San Francisco, California. She graduated from the SF Conservatory of Music in Piano and picked up the nerdiest instrument of all – the Chinese Zither. She was introduced to La La Land after winning the Miss Chinatown USA pageant in 1998.

Last week I watched a Star Trek Enterprise episode, and apart from the fact that it was a good epsiode, there was a very nice Asian actress playing the doughter of Captain Archer. Tess Lina is her name. Tried to find some more info about her, but unfortunately there is not a lot to be found. Here are some images. She seems to be of Japanese heritage and did some televison and plays. If anyone has more info or photo’s feel free to comment.

I don’t know about the rest of the world, but in Holland Lucy Liu is lucky enough to have her own poster for her new movie Lucky Number Slevin. Nice to see an Asian beauty all around town. Didn’t see the movie yet, but somehow I am not expecting a great movie. The official movie site offers some information and a trailer.

Lucy Liu is returning to her Chinese roots for a harrowing new movie about the world AIDS epidemic. The Charlie’s Angels star will appear in the Chinese language segment of new film 3 Needles, and admits it’s one of the most important movies she has ever made. She explains, “The portion that we shot is representing China so everything is in subtitles. There’s an African portion and a portion shot in Montreal about the porn industry and Aids.”
