MAXIM Cover

Mentioned here once before as China’s third ‘most beautiful person’, Chinese model, actress, and singer Zhou Xun is currently one of the most promising young faces in the Asian film industry.Born in Quzhou, China, Zhou Xun began her career in the dramatic arts at the Zhejiang Arts Institute to the objections of her parents who insisted on a traditional education. She was picked for several minor roles and cameos in her early career and did not receive a major part until Lou Ye’s tragic love story, ‘Suzhou River’ in 2000.

In 2002, Zhou played the title role of the Little Seamstress in ‘Balzac and the Little Chinese Seamstress’ earning her international recognition when the film was nominated for Golden Tulip in the 2003 Istanbul International Film Festival and Best Foreign Language Film in the 2003 Golden Globes. She also starred in the highly popular 2002 television series ‘The Legend of the Condor Heroes’ which earned some of the highest ratings in mainland China during the same year.

During the same year, Zhou Xun went on to release the Hong Kong action/romance film Ming Ming in her dual-role as a sleek, modern-day martial arts action heroine who steals an incredible sum for her lover, D, in order to survive the Hong Kong underworld and unlock the secrets of a cryptic message, and also as her own identical twin, Nana.

  1. I think her features are alot softer than Keisha’s, especially the nose and smile except for on the Cosmopolitan cover. Then again Asian facial structures are usually less pronounced than Western ones characteristically are.
Thanks Dr. Lee! Excited to be here! :]

  2. Keisha Castle-Hughes are you nuts!!! not a chance does this fine specimen even slightly resemble that plain little girl

  3. welcome to the club 🙂 thanks for the post. she is a little too plain for my taste..cutesy but not beautiful

  4. OMG! Finally, a post about Zhou Xun! This girl is a rising star in Asia and she has quite a bit of talent. A lot going for her, no doubt about it. Maxim even posts some sexy shoots of her. Nice! =)

  5. The first thing that came to mind after lookina at Zhou’s Maxim cover photo, was that she looks like Korean actress Kim Min.
Coincidentally, the “Perhaps Love” movie poster (above) is printed in Korean, not Chinese.

  6. Just about all of the ladies featured here are in some form of the entertainment industry, purelica. However, we do feature some who are just “internet known”, such as some popular bloggers.

By the way, I checked out your Myspace profile picture and it’s hard for me to tell your ethnicity….but if you’re Asian….are you asking because you’d like to be featured here? ; )

  7. purelica certainly looks to be cute enough to be featured here, based on the pic on her myspace page.

I find it hard to believe that she’s 35, though. VERY impressive, if true, IMO.

  8. CEC32: thanks for the response^^. re: whether i’d like to be featured here…it’d be an honor…i guess. although i didn’t exactly ask for myself, but rather bc i have really hot asian friends whom i’d love to have featured…somewhere^^.

Bigfoot: thanks! it’s my best shot (the myspace pic)….go figure! & in fact, i am 35! =)

  9. Come on guys – we do feature non-celebrities here, but it takes a lot more than an unrevealing (and frankly unremarkable) snapshot on MySpace and a promise of “hot Asian friends” to be featured here!

  10. Doc, I said “based on the pic on her myspace page”. I jumped to no conclusion, whatsoever, just engaging in sheer speculation.

Also, and I thought you caught this, fishing for few more pictures so we can actually see what we have here.

    :#)

Now she claims to have “hot Asian friends”. So, who knows what could become of this?

Probably nothing comes of it. At worst, a couple of links to pictures that eliminate her (and/or her friends) as potential Sirens. But, I have a sneaking suspicion that what ever becomes of it won’t be nearly as frightening as Lulu.

And, yes, in that one picture, she looks much younger than 35, IMO. I know it is only one small pic, but it is the only one I have to go by. Perhaps we can revive THIS thread for her pics of her friends (and maybe her):

  11. The “Show us your girlfriend” thread is my all-time favorite on A-S. Judging from the number and enthusiasm level of the comments, I am not alone. It was the definitive girl next door collection, and proof that there’s avid interest in non-celebs. So yes, based on that one small Myspace snapshot I’d love to see more of her and her friends. She’s extremely cute no matter the age.

  12. It’s been a while since I posted. Let me start by saying great first post J. Zhou is gorgeous. I wish I had more pics of her but the one pic that I do have is fantastic. 🙂

And I think purelica looks aiight and she may look better than some of the chicks that were featured, but I am not for having someone featured just from one pic. But she can start by making her MySpace profile public.

  13. I don’t think anyone is suggesting that purelica should be featured, based on her one pic. We are saying it was enough to pique our interest, and would like to see more of here, and her friends.

BTW, nice pic of Zhou, Candydude. She certainly is a fine, and elegant, looking woman.

  14. hello gentlemen,
my goodness! i didn’t mean to stir up a mini storm here. it’s quite flattering to be honest ;-P.

i actually don’t want to be featured. like i initially said, i was simply curious…now i know^^. thanks for all the speculations & discussions. it’s really awesome what you’ve done here, too!

like you, i’m fascinated with beautiful people, more with men… so maybe i’ll start a site of my own…

  15. :#) Very funny, pure. This is, by no means, a mini-storm. Stick around and you will see some of those.

You have done nothing wrong, as far as I can see. Stick around and have some fun.

BTW, men? Men are hideous! :#)

  16. Bigfoot: i will stick around for sure…kinda hard to get rid of me once my foot’s (1/2-way) inside the door 😛

    you’re alright…very friendly, like me 😉

it’s a tough panel here! …which makes it even that much better!

yes, MEN! men are pigs & i love pigs! :))

btw, thanks for being so welcoming!

  17. lol i check back and my first post has had 43 comments (though not all relevant) and over 5000 views.
hope my next ones even more successful. haha. X]
