Kelly Chen

Kelly Chen

Kelly Chen (born Wai Man Chen on September 13, 1973) is a Hong Kong based singer and actress. She is also credited as Kelly Chan, Wai-Lam Chan, Huilin Chen and Wai Lun Chen.

Kelly Chen went to primary school in Hong Kong, and high school called Kobe Canadian Academy in Japan. She graduated from the Parsons School of Design in New York City, specializing in Graphic Design. Most famous in Hong Kong and the rest of China, she is also quite popular in Taiwan, Japan, and in North America. Besides Cantonese she also speaks fluently Japanese, English, Mandarin and Korean. A high-brow entertainer indeed!I saw the movie Tokyo Raiders, which wasn’t very good, but thanks to Kelly, watchable. I don’t think she did any (semi) nude posing. If I am wrong, please let me know 😉

Eugenia Yuan

Eugenia Yuan

Eugenia Yuan is the daughter of a famous Hong Kong actress and martial arts legend Cheng Pei Pei, who portrayed Jade Fox in Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon. Eugenia didn’t follow her mother’s footsteps immediately and purposely avoided acting instead pursuing such interests as gymnastics. In fact, she was on the US National team for rhythmic gymnastics!

Eugenia finally caught the acting bug when she tried acting in her first film Charlotte Sometimes. She was the highlight of the film but not so much her acting which was rough at times but just her screen presence and beauty.

Since Hollywood wasn’t beating down her door after her debut, Eugenia went to Hong Kong and did some films. She won the Hong Kong equivalent of an Oscar for Best Newcomer for her role in a trio of short horror films called Three. In that role, she had to lie motionless while nude in a bathtub (as can be seen in the photo above). Eugenia also starred in a martial arts film Flying Dragon, Leaping Tiger and another horror film with Shu Qui, the sequel Eye 2.

Eugenia returned back home to the US and chose a quirky role as the title character in Mail Order Wife. She discusses this role among other things in a 15 minute long RealVideo interview including a text transcription.

She also did another interview at Giant Robot.

A recent article about her yearning for some romance is actually what inspired this posting.

I didn’t find much in the way of good pictures of Eugenia Yuan doing an image search on google.

As far as upcoming films, Eugenia can be seen in a small role in Memoirs of a Geisha where she befriended her favorite Chinese actress, Gong Li.

Where do the models go?

Ever wondered when and where your favourite model appeared in public recently? Well, just try a search at WireImage. You will have to pay to see the large images, but the thumbs are for free.

Check out Sung Hi Lee at the 2004 “The Girl Next Door” – Los Angeles Premiere, or Tera Patrick at The 2005 G-Phoria Videogame Awards. Where was Lucy Liu? Attending the 2005 Reebok Human Rights Awards.

Now go and look up your favourite model! 🙂

She also said she was invited by www.dona-production.com to attend ‘Miss Sirens Of The World’. She is not yet sure if she will go. Does anybody have more information on this organisation?

Marie Matiko

Marie Matiko

I first noticed Marie Matiko (Chinese, Japanese and Filipino heritage) in The Art of War. An American action-thriller starring Wesley Snipes. I was immediately impressed with her looks. Then found out she also was in The Corruptor with Chow Yun-Fat. Thought she looked quite different there. She’s played everything from an Arms Dealer, Japanese Mafia boss, an animated shaolin monk, an Old West Cowgirl, a Buddhist nun to a prostitute.

Find out what’s she’s up to nowadays at her official site (also a gallery there) or read an extensive interview @ Yolk.com. More interviews: Xenaville.com and AsianConnections.com.

Marie grew up in Southern California and studied Environmental Engineering at UCLA. She declined an ROTC shcolarship when she landed her first professional audition as Gigi/Mimi in the 1st National Tour of MISS SAIGON. Upon the end of tour, she returned to LA to pursue a film career and supported herself by being an Auto Show model. Within three years, she attained her gaol of being a female lead in a major Hollywood studio film. She starred opposite Wesley Snipes in Warner Brothers’ THE ART OF WAR where she was nominated for Best Actress in a Feature Film for an Ammy Award (the Asian-American Film and TV Awards).

When she’s not shooting a feature or auditioning for new roles, Matiko runs VIVACE, a non-profit performing arts school in Chinatown dedicated to nurturing pride, discipline, and passion in Asian-American youth.

She has spoken at Harvard for the Asian-American National Conference on Law and Public Policy addressing how media shapes public perception and policy. Additionally, she has been asked to speak at UCI, UCLA, universities in Asia, film festivals, the National Association of Asian Professionals on the Asian-American perspective in the Entertainment Industry and was the celebrity spokesperson for the Califronia Democratic Asian-American Coalition. She also sits on the board of advisors for a developing cable network, Word Asia, and the San Diego Asian-American Film Festival.

“My whole goal as an artist,” Matiko concludes, “is to make America a more colofrul place while having a lot of fun.”
