Japanese beauty Chiaki Kuriyama was born on October 10, 1984 in Tsuchiura, a city in the Ibaraki perfecture, not too far northeast of Tokyo on the big island of Honshu. Kuriyama was a successful child model who began acting in films and on television at age 11. She has studied classical ballet and gymnastics and became worldwide known after starring in Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: Vol.1, but fans of Asian action cinema recognized her instantly from Kinji Fukasaku’s 2000 cult classic Battle Royale, a savage SF satire in which teams of school-uniformed teens are pitted against each other in lethal elimination games.

Thanks for all the info Robin! Kill Bill vol. 1 was definitely one of my all time favourite films – although it was very violent, it was also very funny and very beautiful at the same time – amazing! And apart from Lucy Liu, I thought this girl was the standout character – a cute Japanese school girl who kills people so casually was one of the scariest things I’ve ever seen in my life!
Kill Bill vol. 2 was a big disappointment for me though.
I liked Kill Bill vol.2 maybe a bit better than vol. 1, because of the typical Tarantino dialogues that were more present compared to the first movie. However, I really missed Chiaki Kuriyama in this second film!
I’m with Sachiko on this one – as great as Tarantino’s dialogue is, there was simply way too much of it in vol. 2. It was still a good film, but I agree with Sachiko that vol. 1 was really something special.
To be honest, I didn’t like both Kill Bill vol.1 and vol.2. Except the appearance of Chiaki Kuriyama of course 😉
