Rush Hour

USA 1998, 98 mins.
Directed by Brett Ratner
Cast: Jackie Chan, Chris Tucker, Ken Leung, Tzi Ma
Rating: **1/2
"The fastest hands in the East meets the biggest mouth in the West."

Rush Hour has a very simple storyline, so you won't have to worry about following the plot ;-) The action kicks ass big time! And I am not talking about simple explosions, gunfights or carchases, but the acrobatic stunts done by Hong Kong legend Jackie Chan. I rather call it acrobatics then martial-arts, cause its not like Bruce Lee or Jet Lee at all. You will have to see for yourself to understand what I mean here. I was a bit worried about Chris Tucker at first (I found him to be rather irritating in The Fifth element and Money Talks) but soon I started to appreciate what he was doing. The interaction between him and Jackie Chan is very funny. I think he has proved in his latest films he is not just a Eddie Murphy wannabee, but a great comedian.

I haven't seen a lot of Jackie Chan movies (yet! ;-), but the fact that he doesn't speak English very well in this movie makes him somewhat touching ;-) Summary: Doughter of a Chines diplomat in the US gets kidnapped by a gang. The diplomat ask Hong-Kong cop Jackie Chan to help out. Chris Tucker has to send him off on the wrong track, cause the FBI doesn't want this kind of help. If Tucker finds out that he himself isn't very welcome on the case either, he starts his own investigation, helped of course by Chan. Result: explosions, fights, gunfights, carchases and a happy end.
